Open Class (Critical Friends Group)

All new NET's are required to hold an open class within the first semester of their contract. Open class schedule typically begins one month into the contract and runs through the next 2 - 2.5 months. NET's will be grouped into groups of 3-4 based on region, and will be required to attend each group member's open class.

The main purpose of these open classes is to give new teachers an opportunity to meet and share ideas after gaining some "on the job" experience. It's very helpful to see how others have been able to take and apply the things that were taught at orientation. We also hope that you will be able to turn to your CFG group for help, or to share ideas for your lesson planning in the future. It's a great opportunity to form a support group that will hopefully help you throughout your time teaching in Daegu.

Most importantly though, the CFG open class is an opportunity to offer positive, constructive criticism. Please don't be afraid to ask questions that could lead to a productive discussion. Obviously, we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but it is not helpful to only point out the positive aspects of an open class. So, please make sure to observe with a critical eye so everyone can walk away having learned something useful.

Lesson Observation Form

Below is the most current version of the lesson observation form. It is designed with facilitating discussions in mind, with a "strengths/weaknesses" section below each major category. Please use this section to make thorough notes to use towards a meaningful discussion after the class observation. You may also want to look this over before planning your own open class.

The link to the form is in Hangul format (.hwp). It has also been copied and pasted into this page just in case you cannot access hangul programs on your computer.
